hooked rug of a Sheep - Price on Demand New England, c. 1880 Wool on burlap This rug has many elements associated with early New England rugs including: a variegated outer border, scrollwork inner border, and an abstract ground in a center oval. The fringe represents wool, and the tail shows a unique fork at the end and the ewe has a wonderfully charming facial grin, which also separates her head from her body.
