BOOTJACK WITH CARVED DECORATION, CIRCA 1790-1810, NEW ENGLAND OR NEW YORK.

Categories: ,

White pine, iron rose headed nails, paint, 23 x 5 x 2 inches.

CONDITION REPORT:

Original brown paint with a dry surface, in a fine state of preservation; with wear and usage appropriate to its age.

NOTE:

In the hands of an inspired artist, a mundane bootjack was elevated to a folk art classic, with charmingly incised ornamentation, reminiscent of stoneware deigns, in highly abstracted decoration of a spread-wing American Eagle, a gentleman wearing a top hat and smoking a clay pipe, and a bird.
